Site address: Reid Furniture, East Kilbride
Project value: £48,000
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Reid Furniture has 34 stores in the UK and the Republic of Ireland and is
one of Scotland and Republic’s largest retailers of upholstered furniture,
dining ware and bedroom furnishings.
In August 2006, the company opened a new furniture store in East Kilbride,
for which it employed Aarcweld (Scotland) Ltd, a leading manufacturer of mezzanine
floors, to design and supply the internal structure. With Reid keen to maximise
the space available, Aarcweld created a split-level mezzanine floor solution
to utilise space that would otherwise have been unused.
PRODUCT
Reid’s own market research had indicated that customers significantly
preferred escalators to travel around stores so requested that an escalator
be included in the East Kilbride store, along with a disabled platform lift
to comply with disability legislation.
With the escalator the first to be installed in a Reid store – other
branches were served by staircases – LTR were recommended to Aarcweld
by Reid for their proactive approach and excellent reputation.
CUSTOMER COMMENTS
Stuart Torrance, sales director at Aarcweld, said that an excellent working
relationship had very quickly been established with LTR, whom he described
as “extremely attentive and thorough, moving things along at the right
speed.”
