Chinese Partners Give LTR Escalators Seal of Approval
Leicester-based LTR Lifts and Escalators have been given the seal of approval
on key projects by their Chinese suppliers.
A team from BLT, based in Shenyang, China, paid a two-week visit to the UK
to carry out quality control checks on seven escalator installations by LTR.
BLT export manager Kevin Zou and senior site technician Mr Zaing visited Houghton
Hall Garden Centre, in Carlisle, Next, at High Wycombe, and the former C&A
and Beatties building in Corporation Street, Birmingham, which has now been
transformed into new premises to house Mothercare, New Look and JJB Sports
stores.
Mr Zou and Mr Zaing carried out inspections to ensure that the installations
had been carried out to BLT standards and formally handed over the escalators
after they passed with flying colours. The Carlisle project involved two escalators,
with one installed at Next – part of the £275 million Eden development,
which opened in March – and four at Corporation Street.
Last year, Hinckley-based LTR signed a unique deal with BLT, a major industry
figure in the Far East that produces around 7,000 lifts and 4,000 escalators
every year. The deal – the first and only one of its kind in Europe – makes
LTR the only UK firm to offer BLT escalators and it also gives the company
access to BLT’s range of lifts.
Now dozens of other escalators, lifts and passenger conveyor units for other
prestige projects and major retail outlets are on their way to the UK by ship
or are in production for installation in the UK later this year.
Alan Dunkley, LTR managing director, said: “The quality audit was most
encouraging and a testament to the dedication and level of knowledge and skill
of our engineers in the UK. The visit also provided an opportunity for the
two companies to get closer together and to build on what is proving to be
a very a successful working relationship.”
