Lift Experts Play Part in Landmark Learning Village
Leicestershire-based lift experts LTR Lifts and Escalators are helping to
keep students on the move at a new, state-of-the art learning centre.
Working on behalf of main contractor Willmott Dixon, LTR is currently installing
three lifts in phase 1 of the £28.5 million Hereford Learning Village,
a major redevelopment of the Folly Lane campus of Herefordshire College of
Technology, with two more lifts to be installed after Christmas. Phase 1 is
due for completion in April 2008.
The Learning Village will include a new block hosting courses in construction
crafts and technology, a suite of seminar rooms and IT facilities for use by
local business and a redeveloped and extended learning resource centre, with
social facilities for students.
The project, funded by the college, Advantage West Midlands, the European
Regional Development Fund, the Herefordshire Partnership, the Government Office
for the West Midlands and the Learning and Skills Council represents a major
boost for the 8,000 students who study at HCT each year.
Alan Dunkley, managing director of Hinkley-based LTR, said: “We are
delighted to be playing a small, but important, part in creating a learning
centre fit for the 21st century. This landmark project incorporates innovative
and environmentally-friendly design and it is very satisfying to be associated
with it, particularly as our tender was successful over big name rivals.”
Iain Young is Willmott Dixon’s principal surveyor on the scheme, working
alongside the contractor’s project director, Kanji Kerai. He said: “Everything
has gone smoothly and according to plan and LTR have done everything we have
asked them to. LTR were a new company for us, but I would be happy to work
with them again.”
The Hereford Learning Village campus will be completed with a second phase
consisting of a large, modern teaching block containing training kitchens and
restaurant, hair and beauty salons and a life skills centre. The whole Learning
Village project is due for completion in October 2009.
